Spectrum Misconception Comic

If I had a dime for every time someone misunderstood mental illness, I’d be able to retire myself and everyone on planet earth early.

This one is based on a true story, unfortunately.

Note: Neither borderline personality disorder nor bipolar disorder are on the autism spectrum. All three of those are entirely different disorders. You can have comorbidities (two or more of them at once), but they are NOT related, and certainly not the same thing!

Disclaimer: This is not medical advice.

What’s your craziest story of someone misunderstanding your illness?

Descriptive text:

A purple woman, orange woman, and aqua woman stand next to each other.

The purple woman asks, “Is borderline on the spectrum?” The aqua woman makes a surprised face.

The orange woman then replies, “What? No, of course not!” The aqua woman is relieved.

The orange woman then adds, “You’re thinking of bipolar! People always get those confused!” The aqua woman is angry, shocked, and probably speechless.
